DEWEY KNIGHT JR. SCHOLARSHIP
The Dewey Knight Jr. Scholarship is awarded annually to minority undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the Public Administration Program at Florida International University. Candidates who wish to apply for the scholarship should hold at least a 3.0 GPA and be involved in extracurricular activities related to the field. Candidates should exhibit a commitment to public service and dedication to the realm of public administration. Scholarships are awarded each Fall Semester. Recipients receive full-tuition for one academic year and recognition at the October MetroForum Breakfast Series hosted in honor of the late Dewey Knight Jr.
To be considered for this award, you must submit:
A one page, typed autobiographical sketch with reference to career goals and an explanation as to why the financial assistance would be helpful in achieving these goals.
Please attach a list of any honors, awards or recognitions received and any participation in community projects.
Zhayda Garzon
Zhayda Garzon holds a B.A. in Sociology, a M.S. in Criminal Justice and is currently a doctoral candidate at the School of Public Administration at Florida International University. She is currently preparing a national study on the factors that would make a housing partnership successful in the delivery of affordable housing. Her career goal is to introduce the best alternatives to South Florida to deal with affordable and workforce housing. In order to accomplish this goal, she is building her education and work/practical experience towards it.
She is currently working with Miami Dade County as an Urban Fellow in the Office of Community and Economic Development to recommend and research affordable housing alternatives for the communities in Miami Dade County.
