Economic Development in Motion: Strategy and Decision-Making

Crafting the Economic Development Plan

Dr. Murray designed and facilitated a one-day interactive training workshop exploring the intersection of economic development and transportation planning/research for Whitehouse Group for Broward MPO which was held on 10/8. The training and interactive workshop was to engage local stakeholders, including city, county, and state planners and engineers, to provide actionable strategies tailored to their communities, with a preference for case studies from Broward County or nearby areas.  The workshop was on topics unique to our experience and expertise, including:
  • Fundamentals of Economic Development and how to define it in the context of transportation planning
  • Determining local economic development competitiveness
  • The needs of municipal and local economies (key industry sectors, public/private partnerships, housing, and workforce development) and how transportation planning and infrastructure can be integrated
  • Strategies to empower local planning partners to incorporate key aspects of economic mobility for local populations and workers.
