FIU Metropolitan Center has been directly engaged in urban policy, economic development, and workforce training; it has an established track record of local, regional and statewide public opinion and other types of survey research since 1997.

  • The Metropolitan Center’s Director, Howard Frank, is the Co-PI, and all the project activities will be held through the Center (located in the FIU@I-75 facility of the university).
  • The Department of Public Policy and Administration specializes in public policy and administration, offering undergraduate and graduate courses in policy analysis and evaluation. Howard Frank chairs the department. Two additional faculty members from the department are on the team—Sukumar Ganapati (PI) and Shaoming Cheng (Senior Personnel).
  • School of Computing and Information Sciences (SCIS) offers undergraduate and graduate programs on data science, cybersecurity, information technology, and telecommunications and networking. Giri Narasimhan from SCIS is a Co-PI.
  • The Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department offers specialized undergraduate degree in Internet of Things (IoT) and graduate programs in network/cybersecurity and computing systems. ECE has recently completed a NSF project that built a CI for Smart Meter Communications at FIU, which is currently being used for education and research purposes. ECE is also currently building an IoT Honeynet on FIU campus that will make FIU a source of IoT attack and malware data hub in South Florida. ECE department’s Kemal Akkaya is a Co-PI and Selcuk Uluagac is a Senior Personnel on the team.
  • Center for Internet Augmented Research and Assessment (CIARA) is a part of the FIU’s Division of Information Technology, which has developed an extensive cyberinfrastructure network connecting FIU both nationally and internationally. It has been instrumental in establishing the FIU Science DMZ and international CI networks (e.g. Amlight, AMPATH, and AtlanticWave-SDX to connect to the Latin American and African continents). CIARA’s Director, Julio Ibarra, is a Co-PI on the team.
